MWC Wire Top 25 Countdown: #8 Sam Merrill
The No. 8 player in the MWC Wire Top 25 Basketball Countdown is Utah State guard Sam Merrill.
Merrill is the leading returnee for the 2018-19 Utah State Aggies. The junior guard averaged a team-high 16.3 points per game while also adding 3.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and a steal per game last season.
Merrill’s most impressive individual statistics, however, come from the damage he did from behind the three-point line. The Utah native converted 98 of his 211 attempts from deep last year, good for 46.4 percent – the seventh-best mark in the nation. Don’t be surprised if he appears in the top five season, as well as scoring more than 20 points a night.
