MWC Wire Top 25 Countdown: #18 Vance Jackson
The No. 18 player in the MWC Wire Top 25 Basketball Countdown is New Mexico sophomore forward Vance Jackson.
Jackson is a newcomer to the Lobo squad by the way of UConn, where he spent his freshman season. Starting 21 times, Jackson averaged 8.1 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per game. He sat out the ’17-18 season due to transfer rules.
At 6’9″ and 230 pounds, Jackson is a bruiser inside. But his ability to extend his shooting range beyond the three-point line is what makes Jackson such a versatile asset and perfect fit within the Lobo offense. Jackson connected on 50 three-pointers as a freshman in ’16-17, including a blazing 48.4 percent conversion rate from deep in league play. He will be a trendy pick for the conference’s Newcomer of the Year award.
