Week 16 Mountain West Basketball Power Rankings: No Movement This Week
Aztecs are making a case for the top of the league

A few games could really shake up the rankings.
There are two huge games this week in Mountain West hoops. First up is San Diego State taking on Utah State on Tuesday night and then on Saturday is Utah State hosting Nevada with first-place on the line.
Those games have nothing to do with the current power rankings but they have a chance to blow things up next week depending on who wins those matchups.
As for the current rankings, Nevada is still the unanimous pick this week and San Diego State is making another late-season run like last year as they are now in third place, and supplanting Fresno State for that spot. The Aztecs have won five in a row and eight of their last night, including upsetting Nevada.
San Diego State is doing exactly what they did a year ago which led them to an NCAA Tournament berth after winning the Mountain West tournament. They have the schedule to move up these power rankings before the season ends by playing at Utah State, at Nevada, hosting Fresno State and a nearly assured victory over San Jose State at Viejas Arena.
Even if San Diego State wins out in the regular season they still will need to run the table in Las Vegas for back-to-back tournament titles to reach the NCAA Tournament. These Aztecs are a team no one wants to face this time of year.
The only other significant movement saw Air Force and New Mexico switch spots where the Falcons are now at seventh and the Lobos are down at nine.
These rankings go through games played from Feb. 19 – Feb. 24
