Aztecs peaking at the right time?
San Diego State is possibly reprising its 2018 role as surging team during February. The Aztecs have won four of five games, including a big win over Utah State which kept San Diego State’s perfect record against the Aggies intact.
The Aztecs did not move up in the latest rankings as they are still at fourth but this stretch of games has been the best by far for San Diego State. They have several chances to move up as they face Nevada twice, Boise State and Fresno State at home, plus a road game at Utah State.
A few wins during that stretch among those teams in the conference would propel the Aztecs into a top-four seed, or higher come conference tournament time.
The rest of the rankings have a few changes with Utah State dropping from two to three after that loss to San Diego State, and they are replaced by Fresno State.
New Mexico and Colorado State each dropped two spots each to land at seventh and eighth. The other end saw UNLV move up two spots to seventh after going 1-1 by topping Boise State on the road but losing to Fresno State at home.
These rankings go through games played from Feb. 5 – Feb. 11
