No shock that Nevada is number one after two weeks

Any surprises this week?

The latest Mountain West basketball rankings from our staff did not change all that much this week, even with teams gaining a few losses.

The biggest jump was Utah State which is off to a hot 4-0 start and made the biggest jump going from sixth to fourth after easily defeating Utah Valley and Mississippi Valley State by a combined 54 points. At this point in the year, they are the biggest surprise.

The teams that dropped were Fresno State, despite being 2-0 and that was the only switch in the polls. The voting did tighten up between the fifth through eighth spots between Colorado State, the Bulldogs, Boise State and UNLV.

None of those teams lost this week which is why the rankings hardly changed for the middle of the pack. With a few tournaments this week there could be changes once Feast Week wraps up.

San Diego State is in Maui, Wyoming is in Fort Myers, Boise State is in the Cayman Islands tournament, and plenty of other games. Next week, there could be a big shake-up once we actually see these Mountain West teams face some stiff competition.
