Top teams are slowly solidifying themselves.
There was only a slight movement from the Week 5 power rankings to the new Week 6 Mountain West basketball power rankings. The one change was that Utah State and Fresno State were tied after last week, but the Aggies broke the tie and now have a slim lead over the Bulldogs.
UNLV’s win over a quality BYU team was not enough to get them past San Diego State which beat a non-Division I team in Cal State Dominguez Hills. That win for the Rebels snapped its three-game losing streak, all three were by 10 or fewer points, and maybe that overtime win over the Cougars will get UNLV closer to the top four than the bottom seven in the league.
The Rebels have a chance to improve its stock by playing in the Diamond Head Classic this weekend where they open up with Hawaii and there are some solid teams in the field with just one team with a losing record. A good performance there will go a long way in confidence and quality wins to improve its post season chances.
These rankings go through games played from Dec. 10 – 16.
