MWC Wire Top 25 Countdown: #16 Anthony Mathis
The No. 16 player in the MWC Wire Top 25 Basketball Countdown is New Mexico senior guard Anthony Mathis.
Mathis burst on the scene as a junior in Paul Weir’s first season in Albuquerque. The 6-3 shooting guard recorded a career-best 12.7 points per game, starting 13 times for the 19-win Lobos. Mathis is one of the top perimeter shooters out west, knocking down 98 of his 207 attempts from three-point range, good for the highest mark in the Mountain West at 47.3 percent.
As a senior, Mathis will relied upon even more in the UNM offense. He’s the leading returning Lobo scorer, and will thrive once again in Weir’s high-powered scoring attack.
