There is a new way to determine NCAA Tournament bids
The NCAA Tournament selection committee has made some changes to how they select teams. Gone are the days of only using RPI only to determine which teams are worthy. (Read our intro here)
These changes weigh road and home games differently and four RPI groups, plus KenPom, RPI and BPI are metrics, too.
RPI Group 1: Home (1-30) | Neutral (1-50) | Away (1-75) |
RPI Group 2: Home (31-75) | Neutral (51-100) | Away (76-135) |
RPI Group 3: Home (76-160 | Neutral (101-200) | Away (136-240) |
RPI Group 4: Home (161-351) | Neutral (201-351) | Away (241-351) |
The Mountain West began league play on Wednesday night and it mostly went to plan with the favorites winning but the one result that was somewhat shocking was Wyoming defeating San Diego State at the Dome of Doom in Laramie. College basketball experts saw this an upset mainly because the Aztecs are the bigger program and they beat a ranked Gonzaga team less than week ago.
Thirty-six points and 15 rebounds by the Cowboys Hayden Dalton is just one reason this went Wyoming’s way, but was this really an upset?
All road games in the Mountain West are tough and getting to Laramie, Wyoming, which sits at 7,220 feet is a notorious place to play. Oh, and San Diego State has been streaky with also having a loss to Cal while Wyoming is a good team.
In other bracket news, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has his most recent update and he places Nevada as a nine-seed facing off against Michigan, and only Boise State is getting considered and they are the seventh team out.
The order below is alphabetically. (You may need to scroll to the right to see all the rankings)
