How: 100% Computer Simulated Gameplay
If you have been following the Mountain West Wire closely, you may know that we’ve covered the EA Sports NCAA Football video game series pretty closely for the last two years. Most recently we covered how the EA Sports officially announced a return of the game in 2023, you can read more HERE if you are interested.
Additionally, we have been all over the massive undertaking that the College Football Revamped and Roster Editing community has been leading. This is a group who has literally modified the last rendition of the NCAA series, and brought to present day with updated uniforms, graphics and rosters.

Using the most recent 2021 edition of the modified game and rosters (updated 12/13/2021), we are going to simulate each of the Mountain West Bowl Matchups a few days in advance of their being played.
The New Mexico Bowl: Fresno State vs. UTEP
We can only hope the real matchup played between the Bulldogs and Miners is as good as the simulation. Trailing 21-10 entering the fourth quarter, Jake Haener led Fresno State to an 11 point rally to send the game to overtime, tied at 21.
Overtime provided plenty more scoring, before seeing UTEP finally fall by a final of 37-34. Behind 490 yards of total offense, Fresno State was able to seal the deal in Dreamstyle Stadium at the New Mexico Bowl.
The LA Bowl: Utah State vs. Oregon State
In the realm of simulations, Aggie fans end an otherwise spectacular 2021 season on a disappointing note. Despite being tied 13-all at halftime, Utah State’s magic ran out in this one.
Oregon State pulled away by outscoring the Aggies 27-7 in the final two quarters of the game. While the Logan Bonner to Brandon Bowling roommate connection stayed intact, it was the Beav’s quarterback, Chance Nolan who carved up the Aggies secondary to lead Oregon State to victory.
We will be simulating the Idaho Potato and the Tropical Smoothie Bowls next in our simulation series. Let’s see if video game fortune favors the Aztecs and Cowboys!
