After a blistering 2020 season, Nevada quarterback Carson Strong was the overwhelming choice among our staff as Mountain West football’s preseason offensive player of the year.
Strong came out swinging for the Wolf Pack last fall, throwing 52 times in the team’s season-opening victory over Wyoming, and never let up in leading the conference with 39.4 pass attempts per game. While shouldering that Air Raid workload, though, Strong also led the Mountain West with a 70.1% completion rate, 2,858 passing yards (including a conference-best 12 plays of 40-plus yards) and 27 touchdowns in nine games.
Unsurprisingly, Strong has emerged as a potential first-round selection in next year’s NFL Draft and stands as the main reason why Nevada has become a trendy pick to win the West division for the first time. When the Wolf Pack hit the gridiron this fall, he’ll be well worth the price of admission.
