A new week means new bowl projections.
Week 13 is the final week of Mountain West play and it was a great weekend of football that started on Thanksgiving Day. Wyoming earned its sixth win of the year to become bowl eligible, but they are not guaranteed a spot in the postseason.
With that Cowboys win, there are now seven bowl-eligible teams but there are only five guaranteed spots, but it seems like a safe bet that six teams are assured a bowl bid.
Currently, there are 81 bowl-eligible teams for 78 spots so teams will be left out, and there could be 82 since Virginia Tech has a makeup game on Dec. 1 and if they beat Marshall will go to a bowl game. Cowboys fans will be rooting for the Thundering Herd this week.
Also to consider is that the Mountain West champion, either Fresno State or Boise State, has a much better shot at getting to a New Year’s Six game because UCF lost starting quarterback McKenzie Milton. A Knight’s win over Memphis is not as a sure thing as it was just a week ago.
If the Mountain West gets into a big money bowl game then Wyoming should be safe to go to a bowl game. At this point the Cowboys are on the outside looking in.
