The staff’s top two teams, Nevada and Boise State, face off on Wednesday
Throughout the season, the Mountain West Wire staff will provide weekly men’s basketball team power rankings. The rankings are compiled by the Wire staff on a standard 1-11 ranking basis.
Composite score is a rating that shows each team’s relative strength among the other ten Mountain West teams. After total votes are tallied, each team’s point total is divided by the team with the most votes, creating a composite score. The top-ranked team will always have a perfect composite score of 1.0000.

11) San Jose State Spartans (3-20, 0-12)
—> San Jose State fell to Colorado State on Saturday despite the Rams’ ongoing internal investigation.
Composite score: .0930
10) Air Force Falcons (10-13, 4-7)
—> Air Force enjoyed its first 2-0 week of the season by knocking off Colorado State and New Mexico, scoring 100 points in the latter matchup.
Composite score: .2209
9) Colorado State Rams (11-16, 4-10)
—> CSU snuck past San Jose State on Saturday for its fourth conference victory. The Rams will likely play the rest of the season under interim head coach Jase Herl.
Composite score: .2674
8) San Diego State Aztecs (13-10, 5-7)
—> The Aztecs are just 2-6 over their last eight games after being run out of the building by both Fresno State and Nevada last week.
Composite score: .3953
7) Utah State Aggies (14-12, 7-6)
—> Utah State might be back on the mend, scratching out wins in four of the last five games after a four game losing streak.
Composite score: .5349
6) New Mexico Lobos (12-14, 7-6)
—> Have we seen the best out of New Mexico? UNM is 1-3 in its last four including a narrow 71-68 win over San Jose State and a loss to Air Force in which the Falcons scored 100 points.
Composite score: .5581
5) Wyoming Cowboys (16-9, 7-5)
—> Wyoming is in the thick of things, tied with four other MWC teams at seven conference wins. Allen Edwards’ team heads to Viejas to play San Diego State on Wednesday.
Composite score: .5698

4) Fresno State Bulldogs (17-8, 7-5)
—> Fresno State is looking like a contender again with five wins in its last seven games. The two losses were by a combined 13 points to Utah State and Nevada.
Composite score: .7326
3) UNLV Runnin’ Rebels (18-7, 7-5)
—> UNLV upset Nevada on the road this past week, further showing that the Rebels are hitting their stride at the right time of the season. A three-seed in the MWC tournament is still a possibility.
Composite score: .8140
2) Boise State Broncos (20-5, 10-3)
—> Boise State had been living on the edge the past couple of weeks, and its winning streak was snapped Saturday on the road against Utah State. BSU is surely autobid or bust at this point, making Wednesday’s showdown with Nevada hugely important for conference tournament seeding.
Composite score: .9535
1) Nevada Wolf Pack (21-5, 10-2)
—> Caleb Martin returned against San Diego State in what was expected to be a lengthy absence, as Nevada crushed SDSU by 25 points at home. The home loss to UNLV hurts, but Nevada still controls its own destiny from here on out.
Composite score: 1.000
