College Basketball Announces Nov. 25 Start Date

The NCAA announced a start date for college basketball and it is getting pushed back just 15 days from its Nov. 10 start date to Nov. 25. This means just a few games will not be played.
– A start date of Nov. 25, Thanksgiving eve, two weeks later than originally planned. Full practices begin Oct. 14.
–The minimum number of games has been drastically lowered to 13 and the maximum lowered to 27.
– A recommended minimum of four non-conference games.
– No scrimmages or exhibitions.
– An NCAA Tournament in March.
This is good news and it means that there will be a near typical college basketball season. There will likely be some mini-bubbles for tournaments with four to 12 teams, or something along those lines to get in more games and done safely.
With the Nov. 25 being the start date it wipes away so many games within the Mountain West.

Depending on if games can be rescheduled, the Mountain West could be losing a lot of tournament games and chances against power conference teams.
Also, the conference schedule could be impacted as well since there is no word if these games will go on as normal or if there will be some bubble option for league play.
There are also a lot of to be determined non-conference games that could get cut or scheduled to get on the schedule.
There are so many questions because the Ivy League and Pac-12 are currently not scheduled to play basketball until Jan. 1. There could be other conferences that do not start on Nov. 25 and there likely will be leagues that only play conference games. With the non-conference games only recommended at four meaning teams can skip that and just play league games with possibly more than the standard number.
Key Games Missed
- UNLV likely missing out on Maui Invite which includes a field of Alabama, Davidson, Indiana, North Carolina, Providence, Stanford, and Texas.
- Pac-12 games are still not on the schedule but that could change if the league returns to play sooner than Jan. 1. Current games impacted are Wyoming vs. Arizona, UNLV vs. Cal and UCLA, San Jose State at Stanford, and Wyoming at Arizona.
- Myrtle Beach Invite will not happen and it featured Utah State.
- Cayman Islands Classic was Nevada’s non-conference tournament.
- Colorado State was to face Louisville in the MGM Main Event. There is a chance this could be rescheduled.
