First look at Mountain West odds.
All 12 teams are in action once again this week but there also a few non-conference games in the mix once again.
Air Force at San Diego State (-10)
This is a big line for the Aztecs to be favored by against a Falcons team which had its best game of the year by defeating rival Navy. San Diego State did shut down the Broncos offense en route to the 19-13 win, but this Falcons team is a different beast than any team in the league.
Time of possession is key and Donald Hammond III looked really good under center for the Falcons. Early lean is to take Air Force to cover.
UNLV at Utah State (-24.5)
Wow! It would take some serious research to go back and find out the last time Utah State was this big of a favorite against an FBS team. The fact is, the Rebels looked really bad with new quarterback Max Gilliam and also the running game was held to its worst performance in years.
The kicker is that the Aggies defense, and offense, are miles ahead New Mexico’s. Having said that it is a fools’ errand to take Utah State to cover this game, at least for me.
Army vs. San Jose (at Levi’s Stadium) (+14)
This is a sort of neutral site game as it was moved from the home of San Jose State and instead is being played at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara which is home of the San Francisco 49ers and the site of this year’s college football playoff title game.
The Spartans have shown improvement each week with its offense and the passing defense is showing strides as the season goes on. There is a decent change San Jose State could cover this game, and you would not be crazy to make that bet.
