More bowl eligible teams

The latest bowl projections have the same seven teams as last week. Wyoming is close after its latest win over Colorado State and has five wins and could get to six wins with three games left against Boise State, Utah State, and Hawaii; the first two are on the road so it will be difficult.

Seven is likely going to be the peak of how many Mountain West teams will be bowl eligible and we will see if all bowl-eligible teams find a home.

One way that could help get every team in the postseason is if somehow that San Diego State gets to a New Year’s Six game. This will take a lot of help with Cincinnati losing the American so that they are not the highest-ranked Group of Five team, but the danger with that is if Houston is a one-loss team and beats the Bearcats they have a good chance to jump the Aztecs.

That scenario is weeks away and will take a lot to happen so in the meantime, the Aztecs may have to “settle” for facing USC — who avoides San Diego State during the regular season — in the Jimmy Kimmell Bowl.
