Caleb Martin is the preseason pick for Player of the Year

The Mountain West released its 2018-19 preseason awards and projected order of finish at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas at the conference’s media day.

Nevada has been pegged the preseason favorite, picking up 18 of 19 possible first-place votes. San Diego State, which is projected to finish second, had the other first-place vote.

Following Nevada and San Diego State, New Mexico checks in at third with Boise State, Fresno State, and UNLV rounding out the top six. Then comes Wyoming, Colorado State, Utah State, Air Force, and San Jose State.

The league’s choice for Freshman of the Year is Nevada’s Jordan Brown, a five-star recruit and McDonald’s All-American.

The preseason Newcomer of the Year Award goes to New Mexico’s Vance Jackson, a redshirt sophomore who transferred from Connecticut.
