First look at the order of finish
Bill Connelly’s first edition of SP+ recently came out with its first edition of where teams are ranked heading into the 2022 season. Now we will use those numbers to predict the record of each Mountain West school, and then determine who is expected to be the very early champion.

Now that we have gone through every team and their projected record from SP+, it is time to show the projected order of finish and what teams will face off in the computer-based conference title game, the winner, and who is bowl eligible.
SP+ ratings don’t account for the location of these games and only look at each team individually. There are a few games that are within a few spots of each other on the ranking and making the home team an underdog where in reality it might be switched.
Mountain Division Projected Standings
- Boise State (11-1, 7-1) Broncos own tie-breaker with win over Air Force
- Air Force (11-1, 7-1)
- Wyoming (7-5, 6-2)
- Colorado State (6-6. 4-4) Rams own tie-breaker with win over Utah State
- Utah State (6-6, 4-4)
- New Mexico (2-10, 0-8)
West Division Projected Standings
- Fresno State (12-0, 8-0)
- San Diego State (7-5, 6-2)
- San Jose State (7-5, 4-4)
- UNLV (4-8, 1-3)
- Nevada (3-9, 1-7)
- Hawaii (2-11, 0-8)
With these rankings, it predicts that a conference title game would have Boise State traveling to Fresno State for the third meeting in such game between the Bulldogs and Broncos.
The SP+ predicts that Fresno State will be 13-0 and win the Mountain West for the second time in school history, as it stands in Mid-April.
