What are the oddsmakers saying about these match ups?
Late in the week we will look at odds and recent lines and make our best picks and bets. Odds courtesy of Vegas Insider.
In week four of the college football season, the Mountain West had some interesting final scores. Both Fresno State and Wyoming won by smaller margins after being labeled large favorites. Boise State was a field goal away from a shut out. And Air Force showed that you can never count them out.
Last week we went 3-6 and we are 16-14 overall for the season. We’re still above .500 and lets see if we can keep it that way this week.
#13 BYU @ Utah State (+8.5, O/U 62)
So this line has dropped by 1.5 and the over/under has gone up by 11.5 points from the open. Utah State couldn’t produce last week against Boise State, but BYU has shown their defense isn’t good at containing bad teams. This one could be a shootout that the Cougars will pull out in the end.
Pick: Over
Nevada @ Boise State (-6.5, O/U 58.5)
Nevada’s offensive line has not been great this year. It almost cost them against Cal and it definitely cost them against Kansas State as Carson Strong has been unable to be comfortable in the pocket this year. Boise State is still getting comfortable under the new systems that have been implemented. Defense wins the day here.
Pick: Under
UNLV @ UTSA (-21, O/U 56.5)
Hey look, another big line that will probably steer me wrong, but I’m going to take it anyway. UTSA has shown out this year so far. A win over Illinois and a win over a good Memphis team have shown the Roadrunners have no fear. UNLV finally showed up against Fresno State, but that is probably a flash in the pan.
Pick: UTSA -21

Air Force @ New MExico (+10.5, O/U 45.5)
New Mexico was unlucky last week in that most of their receiving corps was ruled out due to COVID contract tracing and have to sit out again this week due to NCAA rules. Air Force recovered last week against FAU after losing a heartbreaker to Utah State. Look for the Falcons to take another one out on the Lobos.
Pick: Air Force -10.5
New Mexico State @ San Jose State (-27.5, O/U 51.5)
New Mexico State just barely missed covering against Hawaii last week. San Jose State has not looked like the same squad that won the Mountain West last year. Nick Starkel has struggled as a passer this year and the running game is going no where. The Spartans will win, but the Aggies should cover.
Pick: New Mexico State -27.5
#18 Fresno State @ Hawaii (+10.5, O/U 65)
The battle for the Golden Screwdriver and a revenge game for the Bulldogs. Hawaii came into Fresno and beat the Bulldogs last year. Fresno State and dark horse Heisman candidate Jake Haener have revenge on their mind. The defenses can show up on occasion, but the offenses rule the day here.
Pick: Over
