Week 11 Mountain West Quarterback Rankings

A new set of rankings.

This next set of quarterback rankings is going to be different. Injuries and/or COVID-19 has caused some teams to play multiple quarterbacks so the rankings might be a bit out of wack and specifically with Boise State who has had to reach to its depth and play its fourth quarterback vs. BYU last week and there is no clear indication who will start vs. Colorado State this week.

Also, a caveat with rankings and injured players, we will not fully integrate or consider a player who is hurt or doesn’t play for more than one game. Meaning, Nick Starkle and the San Jose State unit or New Mexico who has to play backup Trae Hall over Tevaka Tuioti who is out with a concussion.

N/A. Boise State QB Unite (LW: 2)

With Boise State keeping its mouth quiet on who is starting or not starting we are removing the Broncos from the rankings. Hank Bachmeier has missed the past two games for undisclosed reasons and Jack Sears left hurt vs. BYU and that leaves Boise State with the likes of Cade Fennegan and Andy Peters.

Perhaps there will be more clarity next week.

11. Jason Shelley – Utah State (LW: 10)

For the third straight week, Shelley got the start and threw for under 100 yards in the game. With new interim head coach Frank Maile perhaps he will open up the passing game and allow Shelley and the offense to throw downfield.

10. Haaziq Daniels – Air Force (LW: 10)

This was is mostly due to Air Force not playing last week or this week with the Army and Wyoming games getting canceled. Perhaps this will give Daniels time to heal up for their scheduled game next week against New Mexico on Friday, Nov. 20.

9. Max Gilliam – UNLV (LW: 11)

Gilliam is showing off his legs by rushing for 139 yards and a touchdown against Fresno State. However, his passing ability is not keeping up with him just throwing for 5.1 yards per attempt and not yet cracking 60% of his passing.

8. Tevaka Tuioti – New Mexico (LW: 7)

Tuioti won’t be able to improve his stock this week as he is not playing against Nevada this weekend stemming from a concussion. He does have four touchdowns to just one interception but he is just completing 56.1% of his passes.

7. Carson Baker – San Diego State (LW: 6)

Baker improved in his passing percentage and yardage output but he failed to find the end zone in last week’s loss to San Jose State. Basically, every metric went up which is a positive sign if the Aztecs rushing offense takes a step back.

6. Levi Williams – Wyoming (LW: 4)

Williams had a big game by surpassing the 300-yard mark but he still has just one touchdown on the year. His rushing prowess is not making up for that with 38 total yards and three touchdowns this year.

5. Chevan Cordeiro – Hawaii (LW: 6)

Cordeiro finally broke through in the Warriors offense with his first touchdown passes of the year and ended the night vs. New Mexico with four in the victory. If this Cordeiro shows up each week then he will be in the running for a top-three quarterback in the league.
