Not so secret scrimmage.
Long gone are the days of the secret college basketball scrimmages. The scores, stats, and coaches will still keep those quiet but the opponents are usually known.
The New Mexico Lobos have scheduled a pair of quality opponents to get ready for the year by taking on Oregon, per the Albuquerque Journal.
The closed-door scrimmage will be held at Nike’s headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, on Oct. 27. One big storyline to watch in this game — or speculate since everything will be kept quiet — is that Anthony Mathis is taking on his former team as he is now a member of the Oregon Ducks.

The Ducks are expected to be the clear contender in the Pac-12 and in ESPN’s latest way-too-early top 25 projections, Oregon is sitting at No. 7. This obviously is a huge test for the Lobos to prep for the upcoming year.
The Ducks have had an interesting offseason because at one point head coach Dana Altman had just three scholarship players on the roster. Due to a massive recruiting and transfer haul, they are good to go.
In addition to landing Mathis from the Lobos, the Ducks secured the services of five-star center N’Faly Dante, four-star guard Addison Patterson, transfer Shakur Juiston from UNLV, five-star forward CJ Walker, and elite junior college prospect Chris Duarte.
The result will not matter on the scoresheet but this will be a great test for the Lobos who have a tough non-conference schedule that includes taking on Auburn which made the Final Four last year.
