After a long wait, the Mountain West Conference has officially released its schedule for the 2021 football season.

While the dates for non-conference play have been more or less set in stone for a while, the conference schedule (which, after a number of cancelations in 2020, will hopefully be played in full this fall) remained a mystery until today. The rotation of interdivision matchups has flipped once again, meaning that classic rivalries like Boise State and Fresno State are back on the schedule after two years off. It also means that, owing to last season’s COVID-related wrinkles, those same Fresno State Bulldogs will face the New Mexico Lobos, the second of what will be three seasons in a row in which those two teams will clash.
Mountain West play begins on September 18 with a pair of games, when the Air Force Falcons host the Utah State Aggies and the defending champion San Jose State Spartans travel to Hawaii to face the Warriors. It will continue onwards toward the first exclusive week of Mountain West action on October 16, headlined by Hawaii vs. Nevada and Air Force vs. Boise State.
Interestingly, however, the conference schedule will not wrap up with a full slate of intra-division matchups in 2021. Boise State will hit the road to San Diego State during the week of November 27, while UNLV will face Air Force, Colorado State will battle Nevada, and Wyoming will host Hawaii. The last week of the regular season will feature the Valley Trophy rivalry between Fresno State and San Jose State, however, and New Mexico vs. Utah State
The Mountain West football championship game is scheduled for December 4.
