Community and the classroom matter.

Watch list season continued today with the release of the Wuerffel Trophy’s list of players to follow. Given annually to the college football athlete who best combines community service with athletic and academic performance, there are eight players from the Mountain West who should be recognized for all of their contributors regardless of who wins.

Air Force quarterback Isaiah Sanders, Colorado State running back Adam Prentice, Hawaii defensive end Kaimana Padello, Nevada linebacker Lucas Weber, New Mexico offensive lineman Teton Saltes, San Diego State tight end Parker Houston, San Jose State quarterback Josh Love, UNLV wide receiver Darren Woods Jr., and Utah State kicker Dominik Eberle comprise one of the largest Mountain West contingents on any watch list thus far.

Of that group, Eberle, Prentice, Sanders, Weber and Woods were also named to the AFCA Good Works nominee list earlier this month. Last year’s Wuerffel Trophy winner was Notre Dame linebacker Drue Tranquill.
