Mountain West Football: MWwire’s 2019 Preseason Projected Order Of Finish
Mountain West football is still on the rise, but who do we expect emerge as division champions in 2019?

Who will come out on top?
Predicting division champions in July is never the easiest thing to do. When our staff here at Mountain West Wire did so last year, only one of our two selections was able to go the distance.
2019 doesn’t figure to be any easier to project, which is perhaps why this vote had quite a bit of disagreement: Five different teams received at least one first-place vote, which would seem to suggest that nearly anything could be possible this fall. Without further ado, though, here’s what we think:
Order of Finish
West division
Fresno State – 66 points (six first-place votes)
Hawaii – 62 (four first-place votes)
San Diego State – 55 (three first-place votes)
Nevada – 45 points
UNLV – 28 points
San Jose State – 17 points
With three teams separated by just 11 total points, there may not be a true surprise in what we believe will be the top half the division because there was very little consensus: Fresno State received just one fewer second-place vote than first-place ones, while Hawaii had just as many and San Diego had as many third-place votes as Nevada.
As a result, you may want to pencil in those interdivision matchups on your calendar now. Every single one could be critical.
Mountain division
Boise State – 74 points (nine first-place votes)
Utah State – 60 points (four first-place votes)
Air Force – 51 points
Wyoming – 39 points
Colorado State – 34 points
New Mexico – 15 points
By contrast, our staff thinks the Mountain Division is clearly a two-horse (one horse and one bull?) race, but no one picked the Broncos to finish below second place and while they weren’t a runaway winner by any stretch, the margin between them and the Aggies is comfortable enough.
