CBS Sports Projects Boise State To New Year’s Six Game

With the Mountain West officially back playing college football, but not yet for another month. That did not stop CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm from creating an updated bowl projection that includes all of the FBS teams that are playing.
If one were to look at the latest AP and Coaches Poll, then an AAC team and likely the American would be a shoe-in as there are three ranked teams and no Mountain West team is even earning a single vote. UCF is at the top and ranked 11th and 12th in both polls.
Even with that, Palm projects Boise State to take on Florida in the Peach Bowl. That is quite the projection for Palm to go out on a limb and predict that not only that the Broncos will go undefeated but they will be able to surpass any American team.
The logic behind that could be that the AAC beats each other this year. Also, to not consider UCF could come from its performance against East Carolina over the weekend.
Yes, the Knights cruised to a 51-28 win vs. the Pirates, but UCF struggled badly with penalties with four false starts before they even ran an offensive play. Overall, UCF had 19 penalties for 139 yards with eight being false starts. Going back a week prior in its win over Georgia Tech, the Knights had eight penalties with six false starts.
That may not be what Palm is looking at but it does not help UCF’s cause when they play better teams in its own league like Memphis and Cincinnati. However, being in the bottom 10 in penalties per game and yards is not a good sign.
This would be a great and tough matchup for Boise State to play Florida. The Gators after one game look to have a really good offense by averaging 8.68 yards per play and best in the nation after its season opener.
The big problem is that Boise State has some catching up to do if they are going to surpass any AAC team that likely will have about five games played under their belt before the Broncos play.
