Air Force: The lack of converting on third down and fourth downs was a big reason the Falcons lost to rival Navy. The Falcons were only 5 of 17 on third downs and 1 of 3 on fourth downs. Also, an issue was the extreme lack of running efficiency which saw Air Force rush for 108 yards by averaging 2.4 yards per play.
Yes, the final play was a fumble of 23 yards but even including that would not have made a difference. The ground game was stifled and it forced Donald Hammond to the air 10 of 25 times.
Boise State: Curtis Weaver just became the Mountain West’s all-time leading sack master with three in the easy win over UNLV. He is already MWWire’s defensive player of the month and is on track to be a leading candidate for defensive player of the year.

Colorado State: Where to begin, seriously. Mike Bobo has to be one of the most impatient coaches in college football. He is already without quarterback Collin Hill with a torn ACL and Nebraska transfer Patrick O’Brien has been fine so far. However, in the fairly close 24-10 loss to San Diego State, Bobo went with Justice McCoy who proceeded to throw two interceptions. Who knows what Bobo will decide next week at who will play under center.
New Mexico: The quarterback shuffle continues with Sheriron Jones coming in relief and while he did move the ball well he still turned the ball over three times against San Jose State. The Lobos are somewhat of a similar boat as Colorado State in that there are questions at the quarterback position.
San Jose State: The Spartan’s three wins are showing that improvement is on the horizon and that they are capable of beating the bottom teams in the league. QB Josh Love is a big surprise as he has taken a big step up from last year and is one of the better passing quarterbacks in the league.

San Diego State: The Aztecs are quietly moving to the top of the conference and are back to being one of the best teams in the league. The offense is getting in a groove with Ryan Agnew throwing touchdown passes and on a low number of passes which is the norm for successful San Diego State quarterbacks. The running game wasn’t great but Juwan Washington having over 20 carries shows he is getting back into game shape and is healthy.

UNLV: The Rebels need an offensive coordinator that has more experience because it is clear that Barney Cotton was a huge piece for the Rebels success. His heart issues forced him to a season-long recovery and the offense has suffered from his absence. Quarterback Armani Rogers was not healthy and in his place was Kenyon Oblad who was just 24 of 55.
Utah State: Nothing, literally nothing. The 42-6 loss to LSU just showed that the Tigers are really good and the Aggies are nowhere near that type of talent. It didn’t help injuries piled up in this game. There was little to no hope they would beat the Tigers.
There is one takeaway and that is when the Aggies play a team with a good defense they tend to struggle and can’t breakthrough. They defeated San Diego State in a low scoring game and part of that was due to a pick-six but look back at last year where games against Wyoming and Boise State were low-scoring affairs.
