The college football bowl season is over for the Mountain West, unfortunately. With the season in the books let’s go back and revisit the best of bowl season.
Best Game
Any time a game goes into overtime it is a good one. That is why the Arizona Bowl tops our list with Ohio topping Wyoming, 20-27. The Cowboys defense did a good job of holding the Bobcats to multiple field goals, but the Wyoming offense was unable to get things done on the field.
It did not help Wyoming as they were done to very green running backs but a lot of credit needs to go to Jordon Vaughn who had a good outing with 67 yards and two scores.
The Frisco Bowl was a close second. That game saw Boise State edge out North Texas 35-32, and a third quarter saw both teams combine for 36 points.
Best Performance
Jordan Mims, Fresno State, RB: 209 rushing yards, two rushing TD’s, and two catches for 27 yards.
This was far and away the best performance in bowl season. There was no extremely monster defensive performance and there are a few other offensive stars (we will get to below) but some of those had miscues from quarterbacks with turning the ball over far too often.
It also helps to get the win to have the best performance.
Offensive MVP
Jordan Mims, Fresno State, RB: 209 rushing yards, two rushing TD’s, and two catches for 27 yards.
Others to consider are in no order below:
- Boise State QB, Taylen Green: 13/22 for 137 yards and one TD. 119 rushing yards and two TD’s.
- Fresno State QB, Jake Haener: 24/36 for 280 yards and two TD’s.
- San Jose State QB, Chevan Cordeiro: 26/44 for 366 yards, three TD’s, and two interceptions. Fifty rushing yards and one touchdown.
- San Jose State WR, Isaiah Hamilton: Five catches for 137 yards and a touchdown.
- Boise State RB, Ashton Jeanty: 178 yards and two touchdowns
- Jalen Mayden QB, San Diego State: 19/43 for 309 yards, two touchdowns, three interceptions, and 26 rushing yards.
Defensive MVP
Keshawn Banks, San Diego State, DL: seven tackles, four TFL’s, and two sacks.
Banks had the most tackles for a loss and sacks during bowl season. He was all over the backfield and was a key reason the Aztecs were able to stick around and keep their game against Middle Tennessee State a close loss.
