Then there were four

The semifinals are set in the Mountain West tournament with all four top seeds playing Friday night with Nevada taking on San Diego State and Fresno State going up against Utah State.

This is the first time since 2015 that all top seeds made it to the semifinal round. These matchups are expected to be good one’s if the early part of the tournament has told us anything.

TeamRankings.com has updated percentate odds and put Nevada as the top seed, and in fact go in seeding order in who the website predicts to win in the semifinals and advance to the title game.

Even though San Diego State has been a thorn in the side of Nevada over the past year-plus by winning three of four games, the Aztecs are only given just under a 15 percent chance to defeat the Wolf Pack. That number seems way too low for how the Aztecs matchup against the Wolf Pack, it would not be overly shocking if Nevada were to lose this game. Also, there is no reason to think a blowout will happen.

The other game is second-seeded Utah State vs. No. 3 Fresno State. This game is much cloesr to the oddsmakers with the Aggies as a slight favorite. So far in the Mountain West tournamnet, the Bulldogs have looked the best of the four teams left and it showed in the easy win over Air Force. That might be why this game is projected to be close, and also because the Aggies and Bulldogs split the season series.
