Why Wyoming Will Win
This is Texas Southern is 0-10 and their schedule has arguably been the toughest in the country, and KenPom agrees. The Tigers have played every game on the road to date and its entire non-conference schedule will be on the road. They have played seven teams from a power conference plus Gonzaga.
Head coach Allen Edwards did his best Lou Holtz speech to get his team ready for Saturday night.
“That was one of the things that we tried to get across to our team was to not look at the record but more so look at the record and who they played,” said Edwards. “When you take a look at it: Gonzaga, Washington State, Ohio State, Syracuse, Kansas, Clemson, Oakland, Toledo, Oregon and Baylor. And all of them have been on the road.”
This team is tested and will be ready against Wyoming as they are tested and still want that first win of the year. Half of the losses have been by 10 or fewer points, so they have been hanging around against a lot of this schedule.
The Cowboys defense will need to focus on Demonate Jefferson who is averaging 22 points per game, and he is just one of four Tigers which score in double figures.
The home court and altitude will greatly aid the Cowboys in this game. The biggest reason the Cowboys will win is because Alan Herndon will suit up and play. He suffered a knee injury against Eastern Washington and had been limited, but he is now expected to play.
This Texas Southern has a pretty bad defense as its adjusted defense per KenPom is one of the worst in the NCAA at 269, and have allowed 80 or more points in all but two games this year. Wyoming has done that just four times this year and two of those games came in overtime with a 2-2 record.
