Wyoming will play in the inaugural Cayman Islands Classic championship on Wednesday
Wyoming now knows how to win without production from its top two players, Hayden Dalton and Justin James.
The Cowboys topped Louisiana-Lafayette Tuesday afternoon 70-61 despite Dalton and James combining to score just eight points. Coming into the game, the duo combined to average 35.6 points per game. Alex Aka Gorski came up big again, leading the Cowboys with 16 points, including a trio of three-pointers. Lou Adams (14 points), Ny Redding (13) and Alan Herndon (10) were the other Wyoming players in double figures.
Justin James left the game after a bloody nose due to contact. He returned to the Wyoming bench but did not check back into the game.
The Cowboys held a comfortable 35-23 lead the break, and maintained a double-digit lead for much of the second half. The advantage was trimmed to six with 48 seconds remaining, but Alex Aka Gorski converted two free throws to ice the game late.
Wyoming is 4-0 for the first time since Larry Shyatt guided the Cowboys to a 7-0 start to the season in 2015, which was the last time the Cowboys reached the NCAA Tournament.
Wyoming will play the winner of Richmond/#12 Cincinnati on Wednesday at 4:30pm PT.
