Sean Chambers started 5-of-5 and led Wyoming to its fourth year of bowl-eligibility under head coach Craig Bohl in its dominant outing against Nevada.
Chambers led a fast start with for the Cowboys with two touchdowns in the first two series, with his first pass on the first play of the game going to Xazavian Valladay up the seam for a 52-yard score. Chambers ran it in on the next series, but took an awkward hit to his lower body that might’ve re-aggravated a lower leg injury that he’s been powering through. He led the Cowboys to a 24-3 halftime lead, before being held out the rest of the game.
The red-shirt freshman was just one of the reasons the Cowboys ran past the Wolf Pack.
X Factor On The Ground
Valladay not only caught a touchdown pass, the sophomore runningback carried the ball 26 times for 206 yards. It was the most yards since Brian Hill, current Atlanta Falcons’ runningback, did the same thing over this Nevada squad in 2016.
Valladay averaged almost 8 yards a carry and busted off on run for 53 yards up the middle.
The Wyoming rushing game earned 258 yards despite being a one-horse team with Chambers hobbled and being down two starters on the offensive line.
Defense Was Solid
Despite allowing 254 yards through the air, the Cowboys defense bent but never broke. Wyoming got to the Nevada quarterbacks four times and picked off one Carson Strong deep toss.
Senior safety Alijah Halliburton came up with the circus interception in the 3rd quarter. Freshman defensive end, Solomon Byrd made his sack total climb to six recording another 2.5 on Saturday.
Byrd leads the nation in sacks for freshmen and Halliburton leads all defensive backs with 75 stops and is in the top 15 for tackles overall.
