ODDS: Wyoming -2.5
Wyoming’s seniors will take the field at War Memorial Stadium for the final time on a snowy Saturday afternoon. For many of these players, their first taste of college football was a 24-13 thrashing handed out to them by North Dakota on Jonah Field. The Cowboys would finish that season 2-10 but were able to take the lessons from that experience and put back to back 8 win seasons together for the first time since the late 80’s.
Entering their final season in Laramie, they entered with high expectations but quickly saw their hopes and dreams dash away on their way to a disappointing 2-6 start. They didn’t give up, they have buckled down and scrapped their way back to 4-6 with the chance of gaining bowl eligibility just 2 games away. With a spark from true freshman quarterback Sean Chambers, this senior class has an opportunity to make a bowl game in 3 consecutive seasons, a feat no Cowboys class has ever achieved.
Hold Onto The Ball
Normally a simple task until the elements in Laradise take over. There is currently a Winter Weather Advisory for the Laramie Valley with 1-3 inches of snow projected through Saturday night. With a projected kickoff temperature of 21 degrees, the ball will be slippery and rock hard. The wind shouldn’t affect either team as they are both run heavy offenses but the team that can hold onto the ball during handoffs and long snaps will likely be the team that comes out on top.
Stop The Option
Wyoming has done a nice job against Air Force over the past few years because they have been well disciplined in stopping the run. The Falcons have only averaged 176 rushing yards against the Cowboys over the past two seasons. Air Force averaged over 300 rushing yards per game in each of those seasons. Generally, if you can make the Falcons pass, you have a good chance at beating them.
Nico Evans Needs the Ball
Evans enters the game as the second leading rusher in the country with 145 ypg. Get him the ball and get it to him often. As a senior, he should be well prepared for what the weather has in store for them.
