It’s part two of the 2019 Basketball Border War between Wyoming and Colorado State. And the Rams are looking for revenge. Wyoming used a hot shooting Justin James and a matchup zone defense to put away the Rams in their previous matchup.

The Rams have gone 1-1 since the loss to Wyoming. A frustrating loss to San Diego State was followed by a confidence boosting win against San Jose State. The Rams had 26 assists on 35 made shots and made 16 threes against the Spartans.

Against the Cowboys, CSU will have to watch for the matchup zone that has frustrated them many times this season. The Rams were able to break the zone a couple of times, but never consistently. They will need to do so in order to win against Wyoming.

Nico Carvacho, you can only say it so many different ways, but the offense runs through him. If the ball doesn’t touch Carvacho’s hands at least once on an offensive possession, it is a bad possession for the Rams. Getting Carvacho involved is the key to the Rams success.

Wyoming has gone 0-3 since their win against the Rams. They lost to Utah State, Nevada, and UNLV. And Justin James received virtually no help. James scored ~40.9% of the Cowboys points in those three losses. In those three losses, only one player reached double digits (Trevon Taylor vs Nevada).

Now they’re hoping Justin James and defense can lead them to another victory. In the teams first meeting, James shot 71.4% from the field, including 83.3% from deep, for 36 points. The Rams have to respect him and this could lead to opportunities for the other Cowboys.

The matchup zone the Cowboys deployed against the Rams in their first matchup proved very effective, as it had the Rams playing confused at times. If they can have the same performance again, the Rams could be in for a long day.

The Rams are going to be looking for revenge after the first meeting. The Cowboys will be looking for the season sweep. This is always going to be an exciting matchup whenever these two teams meet. Expect a dogfight until the end.
