Ranking the players of the year this week
Before we dive into Week 11 of Mountain West football, we are bringing you the horserace for the player of the week of the year award. We are having our staff rank the top seven performances of the week and giving points out with first-place earning seven and seventh place earning one point.
After the tabulation, we will be adding the points each week for a total and the new updates will be at the bottom of this post.
7. Jacoby Windom, UNLV, LB – One Point
Things did not go all that great for UNLV in its 40-27 loss to Fresno State but Windom was a bright spot for the Rebels. He got to the backfield with 2.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for a loss with nine total tackles to be the leader of the UNLV defense.
6. Xavian Valladay, Wyoming, RB – Two Points
Valladay gets all of the carries for the Cowboys and rushed for a solid 147 yards and had two catches. The only downside to his performance was that he was held out of the end zone.
5. AJ Vongphachanh, Utah State, LB – Three Points
His 17 tackles led the conference for the week and he had a sack. Vongphachanh was one of the few bright spots in the loss to Nevada which moved the Aggies to 0-3 on the year.
4. Romeo Doubs, Nevada, WR – Four Points
Doubs is not only one of the best Mountain West receivers he is slowly becoming one of the best in the country. This past week he had three touchdowns and had 137 yards in the blowout win over Utah State.

3. Chevan Cordiero, Hawaii, QB – Five Points
The Hawaii quarterback broke out of his slump and had more passing yards in his last game compared to the entire season combined in the Warriors win over New Mexico. Cordiero had 410 yards in the air with four touchdowns plus one on the ground while rushing for 39 total.

2. Ronnie Rivers, Fresno State, RB – Six Points
Rivers had four total touchdowns, rushed for 133, and on the receiving front had six catches for 99 yards and one of the four touchdowns was a reception. He is slowly becoming the best running back and with his versatile play of being able to run and catch the ball make him a very difficult player to stop.

1. Carson Strong, Nevada, QB – 7 Points
Strong is slowly starting to be the leader of this group with two weeks of earning the top spot. He is clearly the best quarterback to date in this conference and it is not close. In the win over Utah State, Strong had another 400-plus yard game with 411 yards and three touchdown passes.
