Leading rusher is off to the NFL Draft.

Utah State is losing its second offensive weapon to the NFL Draft as leading running back Darwin Thompson announced that he is giving up his senior year with the Aggies.

“I have spent a lot of time weighing all options for my future, receiving advice from my family and coaches throughout the process,” Thompson said in a statement from the university. “I have come to the decision to leave school and enter the 2019 NFL Draft. Your support has meant everything to me and I’m excited to represent all my Aggies at the next level.”

Thompson was a JUCO transfer from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College where he was an All-American and 2018 is going to be his only year at the FBS level with Utah State.

He made the year count at the top-tier level by rushing for 1,044 yards and 14 touchdowns and was named as a second-team All-Mountain West selection.

Thompson helped the Aggies to one of its best seasons ever with an 11-2 season that was capped by a 52-13 win over North Texas in the New Mexico Bowl.

“In these situations, we have and always will work to educate the young men and provide them with accurate information,” said USU head coach Gary Andersen. “Darwin and his family believe moving on is best for him and his future. We will support Darwin in his quest to play in the NFL and wish him all the best moving forward.”
