SDSU Senior Ashley Henderson: Fastest Woman In The World

Aztecs track and field standout Ashley Henderson is taking her speed to the next level, and the world has taken notice.

Henderson becomes the first Aztec to break the eleven-second barrier in the women’s 100 meter dash.

10.98 seconds is really fast.  It is the fastest time registered by a woman for a 100-meter dash anywhere in the world during 2018.

The feat was achieved by SDSU senior track and field standout Ashley Henderson, in the Desert Heat Classic at the University of Arizona in Tucson this past weekend.  It is a SDSU record, Henderson is the first Aztec to break the 11-second barrier.

“It feels amazing.” Henderson said after her record-breaking run. “I knew I could do it. I’m extremely proud of myself and grateful for coach Burrell.”

Henderson’s record-setting race was only her third outdoor 100 meter dash of the season.  Her strongest event has historically been the 200 meter dash.

Henderson, is the Mountain West track athlete of the week for this and last week.

The all-time record in the 100 meter dash is held by Florence Griffin-Joyner who ran it in 10:49 seconds in 1988.
