San Jose State enters its matchup against New Mexico after a disappointing performance at Boise State. The Broncos opened the game by making 5 threes in a row to gain a 15-0 advantage. The rest of the half was dominated by Boise State as they lead at the half 46-28. Boise State pushed the game out of reach as they started the second half on a 12-0 run. The Broncos won every facet of the game as they shot 62% and 50% from three, won the rebound margin and turned the ball over 11 fewer times than the Spartans. One bright spot for the Spartans was Noach Baumann, he increased his consecutive streak of making at least one three to 20 games, one way from the school record. The Spartans will need a much better effort at the Pit if they plan on winning their first conference game. For the Spartans to win, they will need to dominate the paint by winning the rebound margin and defending the rim. New Mexico gave up 42 points in the paint in their last game against Nevada so there is a chance.

New Mexico is coming off a loss at Nevada in which they gave up big runs in the first half. In the first 10 minutes, Nevada was able to go on a 25-9 run and another 9-0 run. The Lobos went into the first half with a 51-26 deficit and it did not get much better in the second half. Although the Lobos shot 40% in the second half, Nevada was able to shoot 50% for the game. If New Mexico is on their game they should be able to score in bunches and outscore the Spartans. This is a game the Lobos cannot afford to lose if they want to improve their place in the standings as they have games against Fresno State and at Utah State coming up next.
