The big news in this game is that San Diego State is getting back quarterback Christian Chapman in the lineup. Head coach Rocky Long said he would play during the game but the start will go to Ryan Agnew.
Also, running back Juwan Washington and Isaac Lessard practiced this week and are expected to play some against the Lobos. Both have been out about a month with injuries and the Aztecs lost just one game during the stretch.
New Mexico is going with a new quarterback on its end and starting Coltin Gerhart over Tevaka Tuioti who was benched in last week’s loss to Utah State. The style of play should be somewhat similar as Gerhart rushed only twice while going 8 of 12 in the air.
The offense is not going to completely back to its rushed based option attack as it did in prior years but do not be surprised if the running game has a few more reps because when Gerhart played last year showed to productive on the ground when earning significant reps.
