Are the Aztecs turning the corner?

San Diego State seems to be finally hitting their stride and playing their best basketball. Air Force scored 100 points in their last home game against New Mexico. After watching the first half an observer would have to question if those were the same two teams.

The first half of the San Diego State at Air Force game can be described by using adjectives such as lethargic, boring, and atrocious. After 20 minutes the Aztecs and Falcons finished with 49 total points as San Diego State ended up leading 26-23.

In the second half the Aztecs took an early lead when freshman Matt Mitchell scored 11 points within four minutes, giving the Aztecs a double-digit lead. From there the Aztecs took control of the game with the Falcons unable to get within closer than seven points. At the end of the game the Aztecs ended up top by a score of 67-56.

Mitchell led the way for the Aztecs with 17 points. Malik Pope chipped in 13 points as the only two San Diego State scorers in double figures. Senior Trey Kell had five points and eight assists.

Ryan Swan (11 points) and CJ Siples (10 points) led the way for the Falcons. Air Force has now lost two straight and will host Utah State on Saturday. San Diego State heads to San Jose State this Saturday for their final away game of the season.
