Broncos come up short against the Ducks in Eugene
Boise State traveled to Eugene on Saturday to take on the Oregon Ducks. The Broncos and Ducks have a unique scheduling arrangement this year as they play again in two weeks back in Boise, a rare in-season home and home.
This is typical for conference foes but unusual for out of conference games that are not part of an optional tournament. For the sake of Bronco fans, let’s hope the end result is better on December 29th, as Boise State fell to Oregon 66 to 54.
This contest was a strange one as the Broncos actually led 28-24 at the half, despite having their two leading scorers combined to be 0 for 12 from the field. Boise State was then outscored by 16 points in the second half.
Oregon shot nearly 49% from the field (even without their star player Bol Bol), while Boise State shot just 35% from the field and 28.6% from three. Giving up second-chance points was also an issue for the Broncos as they were out rebounded 33 to 26.
The only bright spot for Boise State was the performance of Alex Hobbs. Hobbs has shown flashes of brilliance in his time with the Broncos but has also had consistency and injury issues. Against the Ducks he had 21 points going 8 for 15 from the field, including an impressive 5 for 7 from three.
The Broncos will next be in action on Wednesday when they take on Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles, California.
