0-fer vs. 0-fer

Tbe one game on Thanksgiving day for the Mountain West is an early evening kick out West with a pair of winless teams between New Mexico and Utah State.

Utah State has not started 0-5 since the 2007 season and they are looking to avoid that. The Lobos have fared much worse by having lost 13 games in a row overall, 19 consecutive games against Mountain West opponents, and 12 straight road contests.

The Aggies are starting a new quarterback since Jason Shelley is no longer with the program and it looks as if it will be Andrew Peasley. Peasley has played just a little bit this year and what he has shown is not great in limited action by completing just 6 of 16 passes and an interception.

Utah State will need to lean on running back Jaylen Warren who has been one of the few bright spots on this team. The Aggies losing transfers mid-season do no help while playing for an interim head coach in Frank Maile. If the Aggies are going to get a win this is their best chance all year.

New Mexico’s quarterback situation is still TBD as there is no word on if Tevaka Tuioti is back after suffering a concussion a few weeks ago. If it is not Tuioti then it will be Trae Hall with just a 52% of his passes and has three interceptions. That will have to improve and it very well could against this Utah State defense.

Running back Bobby Cole is a guy who is giving Aggies coaches issues at night and are focusing on him in this game and feel if Utah State stops Cole they can get the win over New Mexico.

“Another explosive offense (we’re facing),” Maile said. “We’ve got to keep everything in front of us. We’ve got to stop the run. They’ve got a physical running back in Bobby Cole, No. 34. He does a great job for those guys, and it all starts up front for (the Lobos), so (it’s a) challenge for the D-line to be able to combat their O-line. They do a great job. These (UNM) guys are coached very well, so expect a very physical football game.”

Despite both teams having zero wins, there is a decent chance of some excitement factor with two teams’ defenses that aren’t great and will allow the offenses to shine.
