Why New Mexico Will Win
New Mexico continues its road trip with a matchup in Boulder Wednesday night with the 6-1 Colorado Buffaloes. Tad Boyle’s team entered last weekend undefeated, but were upset by Colorado State in Fort Collins. CU will look to rebound against a New Mexico squad that has lost five of its last six games, including a home defeat to Tennessee Tech and another to a UTEP team that saw its longtime head coach Tim Floyd retire earlier in the week. As for Wednesday night, UNM needs to go back to its fast-paced offense that was immediately implemented earlier this season. Against sub-150 KenPom opponents this season, New Mexico averages 87.5 possessions, but when playing teams ranked in the top 150, UNM has averaged just 69.3 possessions. Controlling the pace is key for the Lobos if it wants to beat Colorado.
