New Mexico Looks To Avoid Fifth Straight Loss

New Mexico and the staggering Lobos will travel to College Station to take on the SEC powerhouse, Texas A&M Aggies. New Mexico is coming off a 24-10 home loss against Utah State. This was the fourth consecutive loss the Lobos have suffered. The Lobos have not won a game since September 30th, when they beat Air Force at home 38-56. New Mexico goes into this meeting with a (3-6, 1-5) record. The Lobos would have to win out the rest of the season if they have any hopes of becoming bowl eligible.

Texas A&M is coming off their second consecutive loss when they were beaten at home by #14 Auburn, 42-27. Both teams are looking for a win in the latter half of the season, and for New Mexico, they can play spoiler for Texas A&M. With a shocking upset on the road, the Lobos could run Aggie head coach, Kevin Sumlin, out of College Station. The Aggies have not played up to expectation over the past few seasons and a shocking home loss to UNM could mean the end of a six-year stint at Texas A&M.

A huge point of concern for the Lobos over this four-game skid has been the lack of offense. The Lobos have scored just a combined 37 points during the losing streak. With the continued uncertainty at quarterback, the Lobos will have a tough time trying to from a true identity against the much higher-level Aggie defense.

Senior quarterback Lamar Jordan has found him replaced by redshirt freshman, Tevaka Tuioti, in several games this season. Whoever gets the snaps come game time must create plays with their legs and establish a presence on the ground. Additionally, the Lobos must take care of the football. Turnovers have been a huge problem for New Mexico, leading them to be 3rd worst in the country with 25 total giveaways.

To say the least, the Lobos will need to play a picture-perfect game if they stand a chance against Texas A&M. UNM will need the ball to bounce their way and they must big create plays that they have lacked all season. Big returns in the special teams game will keep hope alive for New Mexico. With redshirt freshman quarterback, Nick Starkel getting the start for the Aggies, the Lobos need to take advantage of the inexperience at the quarterback position. The Texas A&M front seven has played outstanding this season; they could have a field day against a Lobo offensive line who has struggled this year.

Miracles do happen in college football, and the Lobos will need one if they plan on walking out with a win against the Aggies. With a very difficult schedule coming up, it looks like the Lobos will not participate in a bowl game this season for the first time in three years.

Score prediction;
New Mexico 10 Texas A&M 51
