Logwood is doubtful, at best, to play against New Mexico State on Saturday
Multiple sources have confirmed Friday that New Mexico senior forward Sam Logwood has decided to take a break from the team.
Logwood, who is currently leading the team in scoring at 14.9 points per game, has played in all nine games this season. According to the Albuquerque Journal, Logwood is set to graduate from the university next week. It is currently unknown how long Logwood will be away from the team, if he does choose to return.
Logwood has been a key facet to the Lobos program the previous four seasons. Over that span he has appeared in 99 games, started 75 times, averaged 23.3 minutes per game, while scoring 7.3 points per game. He was No. 20 in the 2017-18 Mountain West Wire Basketball Countdown.
This isn’t the first time Logwood has appeared distant from the UNM program. Earlier this spring, Logwood mulled the idea of transferring from the university for his final year of NCAA eligibility. Eventually, he was persuaded and convinced to stick with the Lobos for his senior season, helping usher in the Paul Weir era in Albuquerque.
Sources have reported that Logwood is in no legal or NCAA trouble, but rather he simply wants to “collect himself.”
