Colorado State Lose Both Coordinators

After a disappointing end to the season for Colorado State, there will be some significant changes coming after the New Mexico Bowl against Marshall. Defensive Coordinator Marty English already announced his retirement from coaching last month and now offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Will Friend will be leaving too as he will become the offensive line coach at Tennessee.
Friend was new Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt’s college roommate and while it doesn’t sound like he will have the title of ‘offensive coordinator’ in Knoxville, he will be a key figure in the Vols offensive planning. According to The Coloradoan, Friend left Ft. Collins Thursday and will not coach in the bowl game. Combined with English’s planned retirement,head coach Mike Bobo will stretched a little thin when it comes to game planning and recruiting. This is the first year for the early signing period which starts December 20th and runs through December 22nd.

Mike Bobo has always been the play caller for the Rams but Friend was a key part of Colorado State’s success over the past few years. His well coached offensive line allowed only 21 sacks over the past two seasons and opened holes for over 5300 rushing yards. His move to Tennessee comes at an inopportune time as Colorado State enters their final week of preparation for the New Mexico Bowl on December 16th.
