Game Notes: Nevada and Boise State

The Wolf Pack will host the Boise State Broncos on Saturday night with both teams looking to bounce back from tough losses from the previous week.

Nevada is looking to bounce back after a 21-3 loss to Fresno State at home last weekend. The Wolf Pack defense put up another good performance, but the offense failed to generate any points outside of a field goal against Fresno State. The Wolf Pack hope quarterback Ty Gangi will return from his injury that kept him out of last week’s game to lead the offense. If Gangi can play, he is the one that can orchestrate the Wolf Pack offensive attack as Cristian Solano failed to produce any significant gains on offense last week at quarterback.

The Broncos are also looking to bounce back from a poor outing last week especially on offense. Boise State was stymied by the San Diego State defense last week as the Broncos fell to the Aztecs 19-13. Boise State quarterback Brett Rypien had a subpar outing last week as he went 21 for 42 for only 170 yards passing and threw two interceptions. Look for the Broncos offense like the Wolf Pack to try to get back on track on offense.

This is the 43rd matchup between Boise State and Nevada and recently, this rivalry has been lopsided affair favoring the Broncos, In the matchups since 2010 when the Wolf Pack defeated the then No. 3 ranked Broncos in Reno 34-31 in overtime, Boise State has won five in a row over Nevada and in three of those games, the Broncos have won by double digits.

The Broncos had no problems handling Nevada in Boise by a score of 41-14 in 2017 but this season, the Wolf Pack is an improved team especially on defense and given that Boise State struggled to generate offense last week against San Diego State, it will be interesting to see how this 44th edition of Nevada-Boise State plays out on Saturday night.
