Brutal series loss by the Broncos.
The first game of this series on Friday ended in a tightly contested Nevada victory. I recapped that one here.
Heading into game two, there’s no doubt that Boise State wanted to win this one to keep a grasp of first place in the conference, and avoid being firmly on the NCAA Tournament bubble.
It was a back and forth game in the first half, but Grant Sherfield nailed a triple at the buzzer to put Nevada up one at the break.
Another back-and-forth half for the first 12 or so minutes with Nevada leading by more than five until the 8:30 mark of the game on a K.J. Hymes dunk. From there on out, it was all Nevada. The Broncos cut it to five a few times, but never got within a score again.
Nevada received a fantastic performance from Grant Sherfield with 29-6-8

with some clutch free-throws down the stretch of the game. Desmond Cambridge also provided 17 points in this one.
Boise’s scoring mainly came from three sources, Derrick Alston Jr, Emmanuel Akot, and Mladen Armus.
Nevada continues to play spoiler in the Mountain West, and should not be taken lightly come conference tournament time.
Boise State’s margin for error is significantly smaller with this loss. Firmly on the bubble now, have to start getting wins together.
Boise State gets UNLV next week in Idaho, trying to rebound and take it out on Nevada’s rival.
Nevada plays SJSU next week.
