It Wasn’t Pretty But The Wolf Pack Grind Out a 77-62 Victory over Radford.

The Nevada Wolf Pack improved their record to 9-2 by outlasting the Radford Highlanders by a score of 77-62 on Sunday afternoon in Reno.
For the Wolf Pack, it was a win, but it was the definition of an ugly, sloppy win as the Wolf Pack got off to a sluggish start in both the first and second half of the game but did manage to muster enough offense to hold off the Highlanders and secure the Wolf Pack’s ninth victory of the season.
Early in the game Nevada was down 15-12 and playing poorly but Nevada did pick themselves up in the last eight minutes of the first half going on a 26-6 run to take a 40-24 lead at the half.
In the second half, the Wolf Pack again struggled getting off to a sluggish start as the Highlanders cut the Wolf Pack lead to 50-46 at the 11:10 mark of the second half but the Wolf Pack were able to piece together just enough offense to keep Radford at bay and extend a lead that the Wolf Pack never relinquished.
For the Wolf Pack, it was Jordan Caroline who led the way for the Wolf Pack in the points category as he tallied 25 points and 15 rebounds while Kendall Stephens chipped in with 19 points off 7-14 shooting from the field and 4-10 from the three-point line. The Martin twins, Caleb and Cody who played very well in the two losing efforts against Texas Tech and TCU, struggled today as they combined for eight points and 3 for 13 shooting from the field.
As a team, the Wolf Pack only shot 43 percent from the field while Radford shot 37 percent from the field but the different was in the rebound category as the Wolf Pack out rebounded the Highlanders by a count of 45-33 without that, the Wolf Pack may have lost today.
It was an ugly win but a win nevertheless and the long layoff between the TCU game and Radford game may have played a factor in Nevada’s sluggish win. But with the quick turnaround between the Radford and the Wolf Pack’s next game against UC Davis on Tuesday, let’s see if the Wolf Pack can avoid another slow start.
