Nevada has won 16 of its last 17 games dating back to last season
The Nevada Wolf Pack is listed as a No. 8 seed in the updated Bracket Matrix bracketology Friday evening.
The Mountain West’s preseason favorite is off to a hot start, winning each of its first seven games en route to its strongest start since the 2006-07 season.
Nevada recorded wins over Rhode Island (#51 in KenPom), Davidson (#78) and Illinois State (#117) in November. This month, the Wolf Pack has major tests against Big 12 heavyweights in Texas Tech and TCU, both of which are ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 rankings.
Nevada fell just short of the top 25 in Monday’s poll, recording the second-most receiving votes, but a win on Saturday at UC Irvine would likely send the Wolf Pack into the elusive rankings for the first time in a decade.
Eric Musselman’s squad wasn’t the only team represented in the latest Bracket Matrix update. UNLV (in five of 25 brackets), Boise State (in two of 25 brackets) and San Diego State (in one of 25 brackets) were also recognized by the Bracket Matrix contributors, but are on the outside looking in.
Mountain West conference play begins later this month.
