The new Los Angeles bowl will basically be the Las Vegas Bowl.

About time the Mountain West gets good bowl news.
The Mountain West bowl news over the past few years has not been great, but Stadium’s Brett McMurphy is reporting some good news on that front. The new Los Angeles-based NFL stadium for the Chargers and Rams will now be hosting a 2020 bowl game between the Mountain West and the Pac-12.
After nearly a year of reports on this game, it is now official with a new Twitter account and announcement on the bowl game. There is not yet an official date yet for this contest.

“The Mountain West is delighted to partner with the Pac-12 Conference and the outstanding management team assembled at SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park to launch this exciting new bowl game,” said Mountain West Commissioner Craig Thompson. “Los Angeles is a tremendous market firmly within our footprint that is home to a large number of our member institutions’ alumni and the area from which many of our student-athletes are recruited. This will be a top-flight postseason destination for the No. 1 selection from our Conference.”
This is a huge deal since the Las Vegas Bowl wanted a better matchup for its new stadium for the Raiders and is opting for a Pac-12 vs. SEC matchup. There were rumblings of a second bowl game in Sin City for a Mountain West vs. someone matchup but at this time there are no plans for that type of game.
This new game would basically be the same matchup as the Las Vegas Bowl, meaning the bowl gets to take its choice from the Mountain West and then match it up against a Pac-12 team ranging from fifth to seventh.

The really big upside is that this game is going to be in arguably the best football stadium once it is up and running. Playing in that type of facility is a benefit that greatly outweighs playing in Sam Boyd Stadium. The new stadium will also host the 2023 College Football Playoff title game.
