Awkwardness will be avoided.

When Utah State athletic director John Hartwell held his teleconference to discuss the Aggies coaching search after Matt Wells left for the Texas Tech job, he said that Wells wanted to be on the sidelines as an alumnus.

Hartwell said yes to that request.

Someone had a change of mind and Wells will not be on the sidelines.

This is honestly the best for both parties involved, because having Wells on the sidelines could be a distraction for the team if their former head coach was hanging around even if just watching the game as an alumni of Utah State.

Plus, it would take away a bit from the broadcast if the ESPN cameras keep panning down and mentioning how Wells is on to Texas Tech after having great years as the Utah State head coach.

The Utah State football team already has enough change by making sure they have its staff ready for this game as some are doing double-duty like offensive coordinator David Yost who is calling plays.

The fewer distractions the better.
